Driving license in NL

Do you have a foreign driving licence and do you live in the Netherlands? In the Netherlands you will be allowed a limited period for driving with a foreign driving licence. After that, you must exchange the driving licence through your municipality.

Driving license issued in EU EFTA country:

• You can use it for 15 years from date of issue for categories: AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE
• You can use it for 5 years for categories: C1, C, D1, D, C1E, CE, D1E, DE

If it was issued more than 15 years ago but not expired, you can use it for 2 years after you moved to netherlands.

If your license was issued while you were already in NL, you have to exchange.
